Year of Science

To celebrate the Year of Science (led by German Ministry for Education and Research), we are inviting young people to apply to join a youth seminar on this year’s theme of ‘Seas and Oceans’. The seminar is being organised in collaboration with the British Council in Germany.

What is the Seas and Oceans youth seminar about?

Apply to join like-minded young people from the UK and Germany on a three-day seminar in and around Hamburg on 20-22 October 2017. You will have the opportunity to discuss current issues and challenges facing our environment, seas and oceans. You will work together with young people from Germany to explore how these issues impact you, your communities and your future.

Activities will include an excursion to the mudflats and expert-led workshops on:

  • ocean litter - why it matters
  • rising sea levels - challenges facing us and our world
  • biodiversity / ocean literacy - looking at the impact on our lives and wildlife

UK-German Connection will cover all seminar costs, including flights, local and domestic travel and full board and lodging. A small fee of £25 will be requested from selected participants to confirm their participation.

Travel and accommodation

The UK group will travel out together from London Heathrow to Hamburg in the morning of 20 October(*) and return on a group flight in the afternoon of 22 October. The German participants will join the UK group in Hamburg. All participants and group leaders will stay in a youth hostel just outside Hamburg.
(*) Participants living far away from London will have the option of an additional overnight stay in London on Thursday, 19 October.
