Achievers International is an online enterprise project for students, encouraging them to understand international trading. A group of students and their teacher form a company, and import and export goods with a partner school overseas. Students gain an insight into how businesses are formed and managed, and increase their awareness and understanding of other cultures and citizenship. The Eridge Trust is a charitable trust whose purpose is to encourage young people to enjoy and appreciate visual art, especially painting. The Eridge Trust makes grants to schools, colleges and others for school trips to museums, galleries and centres of art at home and abroad. Grants are also made to UK museums and galleries for projects aimed at young people. The Trust hopes that its grants will help to give students, from primary school to college and university, new and exciting encounters with art, and awaken them to the lasting pleasures to be had from pictures and sculpture. The new Youth Challenge Fund is designed to give young people the opportunity to enhance their international experience and intercultural awareness in a creative, practical and enjoyable way and to maximise the impact and sustainability of UK-German youth contacts. This pilot programme is open exclusively to youth groups (and their leaders) in the UK and Germany and is aimed at children and young people up to the age of 25. The British Academy is again offering a series of awards throughout the UK for the encouragement of excellence in language learning. The focus this year is on activity that encourages larger numbers of students to take languages to advanced and degree level. Applicants must demonstrate innovative and attainable plans for improving take-up and enthusiasm for language learning beyond the age of 16 (S5/S6 in Scotland). Projects which involve collaboration between sectors (e.g. between schools/colleges/universities, or with business or employers), or which target learners from less advantaged social groups or areas of the country, are particularly welcomed. A total of 15 Awards of £4,000 each will be distributed to successful applicants throughout the UK. One UK national winner will receive £8,000. Open to applicants from: all-uk

The Goethe-Institut London invites German teachers and their students to take part in this unique competition series. German and IT is THE combination! Fun and steep learning curves guaranteed when you take on one of these tasks:
… and all you need is a computer. Six categories for different levels of language skills are provided. Primary teachers and secondary teachers can choose which competition they think suits their students best. Please register your interest with roma.schultz@london.goethe.org by 3rd June 2013 and you will be sent an USB-stick. All the categories are explained and the relevant materials are provided. The materials are also suitable for offline work. Additional teaching material by the Goethe-Institut will be uploaded on the sticks to support your German programme. Every student taking part will receive a prize. Big prizes for the winners in each category include cash prizes, Arsenal footballs and tickets to a concert of the German Band Irie Révolté in November in London. The Goethe-Institut London is cooperating with the Association for Language Learning (ALL) to put on a day conference for teachers of German. The day will include seminars, advice and tools for German teaching as well as providing an excellent networking opportunity to exchange tips and project ideas. The German Teachers' Day offers you many workshops and interesting new information about the Goethe-Institut. You will meet Sabine Uibel, who will show you how to make the best of German films in the classroom. Rene Koglbauer will take you on a journey through the GCSE Website of the Goethe-Institut London, while Roma Schultz is giving an introduction to the world of fairy tales as an inspiring topic for German classes.
