CILT Primary Teachers' Project

The project, delivered by CILT and the British Council, involves spending two consecutive weeks in Germany, with the first week devoted to intensive language and methodology training and the second week spent work shadowing in a primary school.
After a first round taking place in Autumn 2010, applications are now being received for the second round of the project, which will take place in Düsseldorf from 21 February to 4 March.

Comenius In-Service Training
|
Support for initial and in-service training through providing training bursaries for teachers, trainee teachers and other school staff. Grants are available for staff involved in school education to attend training courses for between one and four weeks in participating European countries or to undertake a job shadowing activity with a partner school.
There are several deadlines throughout the year:
15 January 2010 - for activities starting on or after 1 May 2010
30 April 2010 - for activities starting on or after 1 September 2010

German Day for Senior Pupils

Interaction, information and games in German: Pupils will have the opportunity to build confidence and gather information on topical themes, music, youth culture and language in workshops run by the Goethe-Institut Glasgow.
To register, send the names and e-mail addresses of your pupils to the Goethe-Institut Language Department. Local Authorities can also get in touch to invite the Goethe-Institut team.

For Highers Candidates, the workshop takes place on 5 November 2010, with the registration deadline on 8 October.

Musical Performance
|
From 10 - 12 November 2010, German children's musicians 'Zaches & Zinnober' are visiting Scotland to perform their stories and funny songs in Primary schools around the country.
The concert on 12 November will be open to all primary schools via Glow live video stream.

Teaching German with ICT momentum
|
A seminar run by an experienced MFL specialist, which aims at providing teachers with new ideas for motivating classroom practice.
The seminar will look at the free materials available online, create audio podcasts and explore the use of new communication technologies and software.
The seminar takes place at the Goethe-Institut Glasgow on 20 November 2010 and costs £25.

Residential courses in Germany 2010

The Goethe-Institut offers a range of residential training and language courses for primary, secondary and FE teachers and teacher trainers of German.
Information brochures can be downloaded from the website.
Scholarships:
Teachers who teach German as a foreign language and teacher trainers who plan to teach for at least another 6 years and have not received a grant from the German government in the past 4 years are eligible to apply for scholarships from the Goethe-Institut. German film screenings

In collaboration with cinemas in various locations in Scotland, the Goethe-Institut Glasgow offers film screenings for different levels throughout October and early November 2010. The screenings are accompanied by study packs.
