About the programme

What is Training Bridge?

Training Bridge is a bilateral exchange programme for apprentices and trainees designed to promote lasting UK - German co-operation in the field of work-based training. Participating in the programme is a means to share best business practice while giving trainees and trainers new skills that can be easily applied back in the workplace.

In response to the growing need for employees to have international competencies and qualifications, Training Bridge aids businesses in supporting their apprentices, trainers and managers to gain a wider perspective through the other country’s world of work.

Who can apply?

Individual apprentices and trainees cannot apply directly. Applications must be submitted by the company or by a partner organisation working on behalf of companies and their trainees. The following applicants are recommended:

  • Companies
  • Further education colleges
  • Independent training providers
  • Learning and Sector Skills Councils.

Who is eligible to participate?

Exchange placements are available for individuals on work-based training programmes: apprentices and young people aged 17 - 25 training with an employer to NVQ level 3.

Observation visits are suitable for trainers, managers and HR staff who are identified by employers as likely to benefit and can contribute to the development of training programmes in the organisation.

Do participants need to speak German?

No, but trainers are expected to make sure that participants receive at least 60 hours of language training before departure, to help them better engage in the work place during their three-week placement in Germany.
