Launched in 2005, Youtube.com is now one of the Internet's most popular websites. The video sharing website hosts millions of clips, with more being uploaded each day. The content of these videos varies, from movie trailers and music videos to home videos and video blogs (vlogs).

Popular videos

The most subscribed channel on Youtube is currently nigahiga, run by a pair of American comedians who often make spoof videos based on movies such as Harry Potter and Transformers. Second to nigahiga is Fred. Fred is a fictional 6 year old with a troubled life, played by teenager Luis Cruikshank. Following his immense success on Youtube, Fred has appeared on several TV shows.

Other popular youtube videos include:

  • Charlie bit my finger!
  • Evolution of Dance
  • Singing sensation, Susan Boyle
  • Potter Puppet Pals in The Mysterious Ticking Noise

Music on Youtube

Many bands and artists post their music on Youtube and gain popularity through people sharing videos. In fact, some of the most viewed videos are music videos. However, some artists are concerned that their sales will suffer due to people listening to music on Youtube. Could this be the future of the music industry? It is true that music sales have been decreasing with the introduction of the internet into our daily lives. Recently, Youtube has introduced a new feature for videos with songs in them, which prompts you to buy the song you are listening to. The music industry will certainly have to up their game to keep up with new technology and retain sales.
