Trip to Berlin

The international language of sweets!

What the kids thought ...

"We were welcomed by both the children and teachers, sweets were put out for us to eat whilst we exchanged our learning skills. We found that that the language of sweets is international!"

"When we went around the zoo in groups, [the German children] told us the names of the animals in German and we told them what they were in English."

"Travelling in and around Berlin was easy, we used the underground and buses to get where we needed to go."

In November 2009, Year 6 pupils from St. Matthew’s CE Primary School in Enfield in London visited their partner school, Lindenhof-Grundschule in Berlin.

Together, the children created a 'Lonely Planet'-style guide in both German and English. They worked on it together both in school and on various outings, including visits to the zoo, the Schöneberg town hall, and a bus tour of Berlin.

Since the trip, the contact between the two schools has continued, and St Matthew’s pupils are now eagerly awaiting a return visit from Lindenhof pupils in the near future.

Have a look at the colourful cover of the guidebook which the children created.
