Pets are very popular in Germany, especially with children. Over half the households in Germany have a pet but many German kids would love to have their own pet.
Just like in the UK, the most popular pets in Germany are cats and dogs. There are about 7.5 million cats in Germany, and almost as many dogs.
German families also keep rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and turtles as pets.
Altogether, there are 23 million pets living in Germany and about 27 million in the UK.
