Karneval in your school

Karneval celebrations

There are lots of ways to celebrate Karneval:

  • Children of Vicarage Park Primary School, Kendal, celebrated by dressing up and singing a Karneval song in German at their assembly.
  • Pupils of Ipplepen Primary School, Devon, made Karneval masks out of paper plates.

Why not celebrate Karneval in your school, too?

For teachers

Are you celebrating Karneval with your pupils? Why not send us a picture and brief description of your Karneval activities, and we'll feature them on the website as a useful example for other teachers.

Five project tips

  1. If you have a partner school in an area in which Karneval / Fasching is celebrated, ask them to send photos of their children's costumes.
  2. Does your town have a carnival? Swap pictures and descriptions of carnival / Karneval with your partner school.
  3. Design a Karneval costume with your pupils on paper, and get them to name the pieces of clothing / colours in German.
  4. Karneval face painting - a fun activity for practising colours.
  5. Karneval teddy bears - pupils make a Karneval costume for their teddy and describe the colours / pieces of clothing in German.
