Karneval in Goxel

Humba, Humba, Humba!

What the kids discovered ...

"We interviewed the community around the monastery. It was so interesting to hear the different answers and accents."

"It was very good at the carnival. We won lots of sweets. There was a girl from the German school. I threw her some sweets as well."

"At the school we each had to sit next to a German child. The German child had to speak English and we had to speak German."

Pupils from Enfield stayed in a monastery in Gerleve, as part of a project with their partner school - the Lambertischule in Coesfeld.

The project was on festivals, and the highlights of the trip included Rosenmontag celebrations, singing, dancing, a Karnevalsprinz and fancy dress. The Coesfeld pupils and staff dressed in Karneval costumes, and the Enfield pupils and staff arrived dressed as Pearly Kings and Queens!

The children from the UK loved catching and throwing sweets at the carnival, and singing the 'Humba' Karneval song they learnt at the monastery!
