Sweet life in Germany!

Programme overview and costs

This page contains general information about the Discover Germany! trip. Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints the trip will not take place in 2010. Developments on the trip in 2011 will be posted on this page later this year.

About the programme

The Discover Germany! trip is run by UK-German Connection and the German National Tourist Office London, and provides 15 young people from the UK with the opportunity to discover Germany's most attractive areas. The trip is 3 days long and sponsored by Lufthansa and the German tourist offices.

Who can take part?

  • Pupils from across the UK who are currently in Year 10 (Eng/Wal) / S3 (Sco) / Year 11 (NI)

  • Preference will be given to those whose German needs a boost or non-German speakers who have a high interest in Germany and its culture and have not had the opportunity to travel there previously.

  • As competition for these places is high, places may be restricted to one place per school.

When and where does the next trip take place?

Developments on the trip in 2011 will be published on this page later this year.

What does the programme include?

Participants follow a full-time programme of activities, including:

  • cultural activities

  • sightseeing tours and excursions to landmarks and hidden gems

  • a visit to a German school

  • a get-together with local peers

During the trip, students record their impressions and send a report to UK-German Connection on their return which is published on the voyage website.

How much does it cost?

The trip costs are largely covered through sponsorship the German Tourist office as well as UK-German Connection and the German National Tourist Office, London. This includes accommodation, full board, flights to and from Germany, local transport and excursions.

Participants are required to contribute £35 towards the total costs and are responsible for the cost of domestic travel to and from a London airport and pocket money.
