Subjects everybody should learn
We believe that it is important that some of the subjects stay compulsory up to a certain point. Politics for example help us to understand how politicians work and give us an overview of how the system functions. Another good example is PE as this is often the only chance that some pupils get to exercise. It is definitely needed to prevent obesity and health problems.
Es ist wichtig, dass manche Fächer bis zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt Pflichfächer bleiben. Der Gemeinschaftskundeunterricht zeigt uns, wie Politiker arbeiten. Ein weiteres gutes Beispiel ist der Sportunterricht, da dieser die einzige Bewegung ist, die manche Schüler bekommen.
Choosing a career direction
In the sixth form in Britain, there are no longer any compulsory subjects, so every pupil can put their timetable together individually. Therefore, the most important thing for them is to have a wide range of possible subjects to choose from. In Germany there are more restrictions, but the 'Oberstufe' is also based on the possibility of specialising in certain subjects. These specialisms can help the pupils to prepare themselves for further education or the jobs that will follow their secondary education.
In der 'Sixth Form' in Grossbritannien gibt es keine Pflichtfächer mehr, so dass jeder Schüler sich seinen eigenen Stundenplan zusammenstellen kann. In Deutschland gibt es mehr Einschränkungen, aber auch die Oberstufe basiert auf der Möglichkeit, sich in einzelnen Fächern zu spezialisieren.
