Celebrate with us!
On 4 November 2004, during her Majesty's State Visit to Germany, Queen Elizabeth II and Federal President Horst Köhler launched an initiative to foster UK-German school and youth links.
Following a subsequent bilateral government review, the then two Foreign Ministers, Jack Straw and Joschka Fischer, announced some immediate measures to enhance UK-German youth contacts, which resulted in the creation of UK-German Connection. You can find out more about our history in the time line.
Over the last five years, we have helped hundreds of young people from the UK and Germany to visit the other country, discover its language and culture, make lasting friendships, and learn with and from each other.
We celebrated our 5th anniversary with a schools partnership competition in autumn 2010. Schools sent us their top 5 reasons for a partnership with Germany and the five best projects won a prize of £555 to spend on further UK-German activities.
